Congress President Rahul Gandhi will address two public meetings in Telangana on Saturday in the run-up to the 7 December assembly elections, party sources said on Friday.
According to Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee official spokesperson Shravan Dasoju, Rahul Gandhi would address a public meeting at Bhainsa town of Adilabad district and another one in Kamareddy.
"He will be coming to Bhainsa from Nanded in Maharashtra. After the public meetings, he will be reaching Hyderabad and hoist the Congress flag near Charminar in Hyderabad and address the gathering on the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra commemoration day," he said.
This is the Congress president's first visit after the Election Commission announced the schedule for the Assembly polls in the state.
The Election Commission (EC) had on 6 October announced the election schedule for five states, including Telangana, which will go to the polls on 7 December.
Elaborate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s poll rally to be held in Bhainsa town on Saturday. About 1,000 policemen would be on bandobust duty during the meeting.
District Congress Committee president Aleti Maheshwar Reddy said that seating, drinking and dining facilities had been set up besides venue and security arrangements. People from Bhainsa Assembly constituency and nine other constituencies would be mobilised for the meeting, he said.
The leaders of the Congress have arranged private buses and four-wheelers to transport activists and members of the party from Adilabad, Nirmal, Boath, Mancherial, Bellampalli, Asifabad, Sirpur (T), Chennur and Khanapur Assembly constituencies. They believe that at least 10,000 from each constituency would turn up for the meeting. The venue has been erected at an open space on the bypass road of highway number 61.
C Shashidhar Raju, Superintendent of Police, will supervise the security arrangements. He will be assisted by Additional SP Dakshina Murthy. Around 800 police personnel are going to be deployed in and around the rally. The forces belonging to Ramagundam Commissionerate of Police and neighbouring Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad district have been brought for this purpose.
Already, Bahuguna and Subhesingh Yada belonging to Special Protection Group (SPG) have arrived at the town for monitoring the security measures. They held a meeting with district authorities over the arrangements and inspected the venue and helipad. They instructed the officials to make foolproof arrangements for the meeting.
