Sorry to hear. If you did amd cpu ryzen, the mobo would still be relevant in 2 years. Amd makes future cpu of ryzen compatible with older am4 mobo. Also, ryzen is very comparable, it wouldve costed you 550 to do that (or less)

Also for a rating I would say 8/10. Pretty good build for now, overclockable (once you get a better cpu cooler), future upgradability is good. In terms of overall power obviously it is not very high but this is a budget build and I rated on how well you spent your money.

Also (thats my opinion), things that can get upgraded by expanding like RAM and Storage should be bought in the "cheapest" way, i mean you can easily game on 8x1GB Ram Stick and later when you get some money buy another one to upgrade, same with storage, buy a SSD for your system and later buy a larger Hard Drive for your games. And yes, i know that dualchannel is cool and shit but in games, mainly your GPU matters and ram prices are finally lower than like year ago so buying another one after getting some money is easier. Do not buy cheaper graphics card or processor while buing 8x2 sticks because for additional few bucks you can upgrade 1660 to 1660ti or maybe better processor and later expand your memory.

Ugh I needed this video in 2017 when I got my current gaming cpu I didn't know anything. I got an AMD FX-8320 because all I knew was more cores=good and it has 8 cores which is the max any cpu had at that time. I knew nothing about motherboards but I "knew" GPUs were the only thing that mattered when it came to gaming so I got a GTX 1070 and I knew you could use to via SLI so I made sure I got a motherboard that could do that. Good news is when I upgrade my motherboard and CPU to the new Ryzen 3 series I'm gonna see a serious upgrade. Quick Question is a GTX 1070 still a solid GPU or is it stupid to combine it with a Ryzen chip?

If you're going for a budget build at least get some of the components used of ebay or elsewhere. For instance there are lots of dirt cheap Xeons out there that are great for gaming, as long as you can find a motherboard for it and ECC RAM, maybe you can just find a used whole PC with it and get a new GPU. Keep in mind that you might wanna upgrade the PSU though and make sure the case has a standard ATX PSU, if not, some chassis can easily be modified by cutting some bits off etc. You can get great gaming PCs cheap doing this and besides, it's good if people use old stuff rather than it being thrown away.

Actually budget pcs have even more meaning because with a build with 100 euros spent for cpu, 50 euros for motherboard,100 euros for gpu, 30 euros for ram, 30 euros for hdd, 40 euros for psu and 30 euros for a case you get most new gaming APIs for totally 380 euros witch is more powerful than an expensive old build

"Just plonk whatever game you're playing right now onto your 120ssd and put the game on there as well" *Laughs in currentgen games* Ark is over 120gb for the BASE game without any mods, GTA is 80gb, etc etc. I know this because I'm trying to upgrade from my 120gb SSD. Advice to anyone reading, get at least double 120gb, but preferably even higher. They're crazily inexpensive compared to how they used to be. There's a 1TB m2 SSD that's literally 90 smth right now.

The most you need is 200-300 dollors because you spend 50-100 on motherboard and 50-75 for decent graphics card then cpu i5 core for 70ish or more i got mine for 75 dollors and cpu cooler free with cpu but cpu cooler from intel cheap around 15-30 dollors ram 4-8gb around 10-20 or more dollors and almost all but 550w or 650w power supply 50 dollors so around $305 is the basically a "cheap" windows 10 2018-2019 computer

How I do a budget build: Go to Ebay. Get a board like the msi x470 gaming plus for ~80 (use auctions and check their feedback. bid at last couple seconds) same with ryzen 1600, ~80. GTX 1060 6gb ~$130 (auctions) or with lower budget 1060 3gb is like $100 actually less I think. evo plus 970 m.2 $50 for 250gb. This builds an absolute beast of a system. Just make sure you have a 500w + psu, get a cheap case (I have an old cosmos II I got for $130 on ebay back when they costed like $300+ I now use it every time I upgrade as it is the most beautiful case I have ever seen and will be my case for life. If I didn't have that or the $$ to get one, i'd just go $20 or something on ebay for cheap case. I got 16gb of g.skill rijaws 3200hz ram for like $70 but you can go cheaper with that too, especially if you watch facebook marketplace for a few weeks. For my last build I got 24GB of ripjaws ddr3 for like $20 on there. FYI if you buy a used gpu I highly recommend new thermal paste. Mine was used to mine bitcoin and as long as the card works you're okay, just check the thermal paste immediately. Mine was running hot when I got it (~91C on benchmark) so I replaced the paste and now it's like 70C max OVERCLOCKED. If anyone has trouble getting a decent PC just comment here and I will help you out. I have been rebuilding my computer since the early 2000's and I always keep it fast enough to do everything I do (gaming, machine learning, web browsing, programming, video editing, etc.) and I really don't put a lot of money into it. I can help you get a beast PC for very little $$. Just reply here if you need help and when I see it I will reply back. Not selling anything just trying to help folks out who don't have a lot of $$ but want nice benchmarks for low $$

@Jay ' I'm not an expert or anything but If I were to build now, I would recommend these specs: CPU:Ryzen 3600/3600x GPU: Rx 5700/5700xt MOBO: Msi b450 tomahawk/gigabyte b450 pro (make sure that the bios is updated or compatible with 3000 series ryzen) RAM: Gskills/tforce delta/corsair 2x8gb ddr4 3200mhz dual channel or Corsair vengeance LPX black no rgb 2x8gb ddr4 3600mhz dual channel PSU: Seasonic/evga 650w HDD: Western digital 1tb hdd SSD: Crucial 250/500gb ssd or samsung evo 860 250gb/500 ssd for the OS and 1-2 games that you usually play Case: 50 dollar Midtower case with good airflow Monitor: Nvision/benq/hkc/AOC 1080p or 1440p 144hz freesync I'd worry about the peripherals later: Logitech g102 pro mouse Reddragon kumara keyboard Or get the RedDragon gaming set with keyboard, mouse and headset. If you could squeeze your budget a little more, I'd personally go for the 3600x for cpu and amd rx 5700xt for gpu or 3600+5700xt or 3600x+5700. I prefer a higher gpu build tho.

@Wayne Filkins thank you. I guess if I would upgrade in the near future, it would be the cpu, ram and mobo. I'm planning to upgrade to an AMD cpu in the near future if AMD keeps up their competetive price to performance value. Too bad I ran out of budget for a 3200mhz ram. I just bought the cheapest that I could find coz I focused my budget on the gpu and monitor so I can maximize the gpu's full potential. I built this system a 1-2 months before the release of amd 3000 series and rtx super and navi gpus. I didn't know any better then. Lol. Forgot to mention my psu is just 520w, maybe I'll replace it with a higher psu once I get my hands on a better gpu. Thanks for the input tho.
Wayne Filkins
Wayne Filkins 15 दिन पहले
@Ryan Pan I don't know the Intel technology as well as AMD, so i'm not sure how long your mb will stay relevant. You have a really good build. Every MB has limitations, and the hard part about replacing the MB is that you often have to replace the processor and ram as well. This is the case for amd so i'll just assume it is for intel as well. You can upgrade anything you want but the cpu and ram will be limited to your MB. If you want to find out any sort of (slight) bottleneck in the next few years, use something like novabench and compare your benchmarks to other systems. If a specific part is performing lower, like the gpu, or the ram, then upgrade just that part. Whenever you buy a part just look at your motherboard's compatibility list. Once you have the best cpu for your mb, that will probably be pretty solid for 5-10 years tbh unless some crazy new tech. comes out, but otherwise if you want to upgrade past that, time for new mb and probably new cpu and ram as well. Sorry i'm not much help, you just have a really good PC and it will still be pretty good 5 years from now :)

Lets get real, there's no real such thing as middle class PC builders anymore. Either you're scrounging for good deals to try and make as cheap a build possible, or you're saying meh and tossing out 2k+ for whatever toms hardware suggested. If you're the latter, who cares, you're not in a predicament. If you're the former, do an ATI machine, skimp on processor and mobo, get solid GPU and a small but fast SSD- try and shoot for a decent 1080 machine at med-high settings, this can be done for under 1k.
