While mirrorless cameras have been rising in popularity since at least 2013, driven in large part by Sony's A7 and Panasonic's GH cameras, this past year feels like the start of this camera format becoming dominant. Both Nikon and Canon, the last major manufacturers to avoid the full-frame mirrorless market, released feature-packed cameras complete with radically new designs and lens mounts, and we've seen ambitious new models from Fujifilm and Panasonic that bring features not before seen in DSLRs. Traditional DSLRs aren't going anywhere for a while, but expect to see more and more mirrorless designs from all these companies.

Hey man. Great video! A nice and sober explanation about the differences, drawbacks and superioritys about the two models (DSLR and Mirrorless). I personally like the DSLR's or SLR's because of their bulky and durable body, mainly because my job line - photojournalist, but the advancements in the mirrorless section really it's great! In a workline of, let's say, criminal journalism which uses photographs, the mirrorless has the advantage of both be way more silent when shooting and the better ISO range with a perceptible less noise in photographs. But it's as you had said: DSLR's still have the advantage of a bulkier and more resistant body to falls, shockwaves (until a certain degree of course) and climate changes as rain, dust and sand. The question to choose one or another, for me of course, is to decide which workline we want to follow. For a photojournalist who goes to warzones for example, a DSLR like Canon 5D Mark III or IV and Nikon's of the same model (Forget their numbers, i'm a Canon user) are the best choice, if he has a workline who demands to be quick, silent and with a high luminosity and less noise, the mirrorless is the right choice. Or maybe both of them to use in each of these situations. About videomakers, for me even as a photojournalist, the mirrorless are the most right and safest choice. It all depends in what we are going to work. PS: You just received another subscriber man. Again. Great, sober and lúcid explanations.

My a7III is the best decision I've made. Needed video and DSLRs were a joke. I would put my Nikon down, and film with my iPhone. After losing on a few clients, I made the switch. The battery life is AMAZING. No overheating either.

Happy with my 10 years old Nikon D 700, great camera for my wedding photography business, Saved me a lots of money for upgrading. I have more than half of million clicks on it and still going strong.I love the skin tones and my clients are pretty happy with the photos I gave them. New cameras are great, but you can save tons of money, buying few year old model DSLR and use the money you saved for traveling and photography.

Locally, I've been told that my Nikon D5100 lenses would not work with a Sony Alpha6000 or 6300. Yet, I see from this video, they should work (I have a Nikon Telephoto and a Tamron Wide Angle that I'd like to utilize). It seems an adapter would allow them to work, albeit autofocus on the lenses itself? I'm looking for a smaller but effective camera for travel, family & grandchildren vacations, African Safari, Alaska, the ocean, etc. Love my Nikon, but too bulky to travel with, have a Sony Cybershot, DSC-RX100 (~9 years old), which takes nice pictures, but I need something in-between the Nikon and the Cybershot. The Sony A6000 would probably be adequate, but if I'm spending the $ and keep it long term, is it worthit with the Wifi and 4k as a bonus?

The inbody i.s seems to make no real difference to the price of lenses. Eg no i.s Olympus lenses are more expensive than the equivalent Panasonic lenses with built in I.s. I'm not familiar with Sony emount systems that you mentioned when you said about people putting canon and Nikon lenses on them via an adapter. I'm aware that people do this with the A mount sonys as they have inbody I.s
Albert Tatlock
Albert Tatlock 2 दिन पहले
Once you use anything over 100mm the small size difference between mirrorless and penta prism becomes irrelevant. The only useable pocket large sensor mirrorless camera is the Nikon 1 series with a 1inch sensor, the 30-100mm equivalent lens combined with the camera can be put in a coat pocket. Some of the entry level m4/3 systems without an evf " these stick out a lot" with a pancake lens in pocketable. All depends on your needs, if you are a wildlife photographer then with a big sensor camera you'll need a big lens. You want a big sensor, an evf and a decent sized zoom that you can put in a jacket pocket, there is only 1 option the tz100 25-250. Or 2 if you count the tz200 as a different camera which is the same size but more expensive with a 25-360mm lens, pretty fast focusing and many of the latest features

That is the best explanation yet thanks ... Still wish they made an affordable Parfocal zoom lens for DSLR's. I shoot 99% Video of Radio Controlled Model airplanes and against a featureless sky DSLR Photo lens hunt a lot or when put in Manual focus I can not zoom. Again great presentation on a deep subjects.

Let's not forget the Nikon 1 mirrorless cameras. The Nikon Z line of mirrorless cameras were not Nikon's first line of mirrorless cameras; the Nikon 1 line of MILC's is older and they do have an in lens stabilization called "VR" for most of its lenses, including the kit lens.

Great video! Very informative. For myself, I'll keep my nikon D7100 for now. Dunno what is the deal with AF, I manual focus everything because it gives me more control on final product. AF is more like a casual photographer option and I just use it if I am on a quick travelling tour and don't bother doing generic photos.

I'm using mirrorless cameras for the last 3 years now. I switched from Nikon to Sony to Fuji (which I LOVE). But lately, I'm catching myself thinking about switching back to Nikon. And mostly this is happening, whenever I'm grabbing my old D90 (mostly just to dust the shelf it's sitting on): it just fit's perfectly in my hands! It's always been sold, that mirrorless are quite smaller and you don't have to carry around those big heavy SLRs anymore. But I have big hands! I get the mirrorless advantage, I love it. But please *make them bigger*. Maybe just use the extra space to put an extra battery in there. Maybe just leave it emtpy. I don't really care. Just MAKE THEM BIGGER !

This video compares super high end mirrorless and DSLR camera. Even the worst $3,500 camera is still really good. But compare under $1,000 APS-C mirrorless vs DSLR and there's no contest.

This is strange, it's informative in one sense but in another say for someone starting out, it's a bit crazy showing all those L lenses and saying " you can buy these cheap on the used market.. I bought a used 300mm f2.8 canon lens £4500, A used 105mm Marco L lens £800, We are talking serious money, not the kind of thing most people starting out are going to buy. It may have been better to have shown something people may buy first, not ,Many people are going to buy even a second hand canon 5d with a 28-105 L kit lens for £2000 As a first camera

Great video, but you didn't talk about the battery drain difference. I had a sony, and although quieter, smaller and equal quality photos, the battery drain was awful compared to a DSLR. My hands, although not huge , made the sony not feel natural. I felt like i was holding a small point and shoot. Definitely a market and its growing, but I am keeping my DSLR... for now.

Pentax has IBIS in their dslr bodies and has had it for many years. The technical reason SLR lenses could be a tiny bit heavier is because they need a couple of refracting elements at the back to bridge the longer flange for wide angle lenses. This is a marginal amount since the lenses at the front tend to be far bigger. the real practical reason is that the newer lens designs use newer materials, have more powerful computers and software to design lenses and manufacturers can cut corners by having the camera's fix distortions with software and don't have to rely on glass to try and mitigate those.

SLRs should have disappeared the instant digital replaced film. I have no idea why they stayed so long considering the fact that SLRs have always been inferior to mirrorless (long story) and they were introduced in IIRC the late 1950s only because they offered through the lens viewing, at the price of lower quality, both optically and mechanically (long story squared). Of course in digital the TTL-viewing is a given, so the SLR design became an instant dinosaur. I have no idea why it took so long for them to die off.

I really think these mirrorless cameras will be nothing but a fad, and slowly be forgotten about and replaced with more of the good old fashioned DSLRs. But for the people who insist on having the latest new photographic toy, or for any first time buyers of any sort of digital camera, they'll do fine.

from my tests, in speed of af, g80 + dfd enabled panny 42.5 f1.8 is beaten anytime by d7200 + any af-s lens (i've f1.8 nikkors & sigma). + mirrorless evf is still miserable crap in low light, it was plain impossible to work sony a7 mk3 in a barely lit space with moving ppl, everything is darn smeared and grainy, dslr's viewfinder is just fine. well, sure, they'll find some solution, for now there're areas where dslr is still the only option for work. that said, the cam i carry in my pocket all the time now - rx100, and not bulky dslr, before it was coolpix a (which is still much better in IQ than rx100, but sony's has zoom that i need too often)

I think for pro shooters who aren't event photographers, Mirrorless is king. I unfortunately still shoot lots of events and battery life is actually quite important for me. But if Canon keeps going in the right direction with the next EOS R (mostly I just want dual memory slots), I think once my 5d4 hits 300k actuations, I might just buy the next EOS R.

According to all other reports for adoramma and other reliable news feeds this video is wrong, Why is it that Canon and Nikon have more professional Photographers using their DSLR's than mirrorless cameras in the latest 2019 reports as of May - eg Nikon 850and canons 5Dmk4 and 1Dx mk2. So DSLR's are still number one for professional and Sony has more of an amateur client base with around only 5% of professionals using mirrorless.
