I would have added: What is the point of having two individual ports in a phone, when you can have one serving both purposes, which saves space and hardware components as well 🤔

It's not so much an issue that they got rid of the old schiol large jack. The problem is that they didn't replace it with anything else. You are forced to use the same connection as power and data. This means you cannot charge or connect your phone and listen or talk at the same time, unless you use a separate and easy to lose dongle.

It pissed me off from the beginning, and still does, I hold on to that headphone adapter for the iPhone real close. I always know where it is. it's the only thing I have from the iPhone. removing certain features to combinate others isn't a good move. Since people actually are adapting to it, kinda shows how less important the audio quality of a phone is to the consumers. Samsung had a phone that could be underwater and it had a headphone jack. that fact that they are copying apple by ditching it means that they are controlled by Apple amongst every other tech company.

Okay this is bologna. My phone weighs 4 micrograms. At 8 angstroms, it's thin enough to shave with I can't touch it without contacting Voyager 2 inadvertently. I am capable of using buttons, of lifting a heavier device I am not physically incapable of gripping a larger model if the screen at 9000 lumens doesn't happen to occupy every bit of real estate known to man on both sides of the device I will still be able to use it. particularly because I'll be able to touch it and have actual buttons so I'll know without even looking what I have done. Should it be twice as thick and battery last twice as long wouldn't that be a dream. maybe it'll even be thick enough to pick up and handle without fear of dropping or blowing away in a mild wind. Leave my analog headphone jack, swappable SIM card, interchangeable battery and data ports alone. they are useful I like my computer's to be useful. Just a thought.

Keep the headphone jack in phones. Now we suffer from noise pollution from inconsiderate people blasting audio through their speakerphones in public. Ride public transportation or shared transportation and people will be watching videos or playing music without wearing earbuds or headphones. In the past, people would and could listen through inexpensive earbuds. Your average person riding public transportation does not spend money on expensive wireless headphone, battery charged headphones, or inconvenient dongles. Since Apple and some Android phone makers removed headphone jack now we all suffer. Technical etiquette faux pas.

Two words: Professional Audio. You didn't mention it still has an important use. Though it may get ditched from smart phones, it will never die. I think it's wrong they are adapting maybe lightening/USB C adaptors because that isn't progression, it's going backwards. The jack is a universal standard.

No need to beat around the bush when you clearly know the answer. Apple wanted to cash in on the adapter sales and some of the market is trying to copy Apple to gain some interest. Echoing other people here when i say i'll resist this as long as possible, only buying phones with headphone jacks. The phone replaced the mp3 player and the music app / spotify is probably my most used app on my phone.

NightWolfx03 दिन पहले
Yes because we really need to add complexity and planned obsolescence to headphones.. think about it, the more complex you make them, the more they fail, you add a battery that eventually won't take a charge, and lets not forget making more things that spew wireless and use more energy for not practical purpose. How about engineer a heaphone jack that's water proof or something? And alot of these trends with smart phones really just annoy me.. I want a phone to FIT IN MY HAND not be like I am talking to a TABLET or something. A phone.. should first and for most.. be a phone.

To your point about waterproofing: Apple said they had to remove the headphone jack on a $700+ device to engineer the sealing required to meet the IP68 standard. Yet, only one year later Moto released the X4, which was a budget $400 phone, had USB Type C, a headphone jack and, importantly, obtained the same IP68 rating. Omitting the headphone was, and continues to be a naked cash grab. And I will not buy any device that lacks a headphone jack. And you defending the decision is just shilling. How much is apple padding your pockets for this bit of apologizing on their behalf?

Unpopular opinion here: i'm not gonna argue that wired headphones bring better audio quality, but come on, for the average consumer bluetooth is the way to go! I find it quicker when I workout to turn on my bluetooth headphones rather than putting some wired headphones inside my workout clothes. And did I mention how beautiful life is when you don't need to untangle the wires when you want to use them? It's not about quality, it's about convenience.

I do understand the value of a wireless connection here. See, when this thing lives in your pocket, the cable is being bent back and forth as you walk, and it breaks all. the. time. And eventually the jack breaks too. Still, I expect it to be there. If it isn't, well, that's one more thing we used to get that has been taken away from us.

There's also durability. Yes, a USB-C port is rated for more insertions, but both the 3.5mm port and the USB-C port have very high durability in that regard. Now turn the USB-C plug over and insert it. Fine? Yep. Now turn the USB-C plug 90 degrees and insert it... errrrr. Next imagine some headphones plugged in, with the phone in a pocket or bag. The cable occasionally gets pulled/snagged. The 3.5mm jack just rotates causing a minuscule amount of wear. The USB-C plug puts stress on the port and the whole body of the phone.
Self Aware Devices / Bilinçli Cihazlar
with that logic we don't need charging plug either, just put wireless charger. get real linus, apple wants to fuck their customers.

Soryr, but no. There's no legitimate reason. Every smartphone manufacturer before this nonsense somehow found it in themselves to put a headphone jack in there. "Oh but it's easier to make waterproof". So what? Don't drop your phone in the toilet, or, better yet, just waterproof the damn headphone jack like everybody else. It's bad enough that we can't get a phone with decent bezels or a removable battery anymore, but this is getting just too stupid. What, do we have to buy "vintage" smartphones now if we want basic functionality?

I use mine (headphone Jack) almost daily, usb3.0 is fine for me as long a normal earbud/earphone is provided that works. but those need a dac or no? because its>digital to analog? dunno, my current phone is supposed to last for a few years still. I hate not having tangible buttons, hell, i don't even want to own a crappy TV/monitor with one of these horrible joysticks of today...Although touch IS fine for a veritable high quality build monitor from a brand like eizo, otherwise I don't trust it enough, quite.

"Digital" audio devices still terminate into DACs, as in Digital TO ANALOGUE Converters. So the argument that "Digital" audio devices are better is simply a lie. Furthermore, there are phones, like the LG v20, which have high quality multi-DACs baked into the phone, and are capable of pushing 192khz/24bit FLAC audio, effectively studio-grade. This fidelity is not only not possible with BT 5.0, it's not possible with the _actually implemented_ BT 4.x protocols. Furthermore, you need actually good headphones, like Sennheiser HD 380 Pros to be able to tell the difference. Which, surprise surprise, use 3.5mm. Guess what guys, it works. 3.5mm works. And has done for a long time. All the alternatives have fidelity loss. If you want to actually listen to unaltered audio fidelity, it's 3.5mm. Not Bluetooth, Apple AirPods, USB-C audio or any alternative. This is provable and reproducible. And you can take my 3.5mm from my cold dead hands (and my LG v20 while you're at it).
